Primary Research Question addressed by Dr. Ahmer's Lab:

We are studying the use of sugars as antimicrobials when combined with enzyme inhibitors. The idea is to inhibit sugar utilization pathways so that toxic sugar-phosphates accumulate. We are currently working with arabinose, rhamnose, mannitol, and the Amadori product, fructose-asparagine, with Salmonella as the model organism.
