Primary Research Questions addressed by Dr. McTigue's Lab

My lab studies pre-clinical models of spinal cord injury (SCI) and we discovered that SCI in lean rats induces comparable or in some instances worse metabolic disease than high-fat diet. Since then I have been collaborating with Dr. Rich Bruno to understand the mechanisms driving metabolic disease after SCI. We have a new R01 together to study the role of SCI in producing what we've termed "neurogenic NASH" and are expanding our studies to look at the influence of diet on metabolic outcomes from SCI.
